Peter Sharp
Peter Sharp, Director and Principal Trainer of Sharp Training, commenced the business in 2001 after working for 32 years in the mining industry. Starting as a 15-year-old Cadet Miner, Peter continued a family tradition of coal miners. He has held positions in open cut mines, from Truck Driving to Open Cut Examiner and Shotfirer, and in underground mines from Machineman to Deputy to Production Superintendent to Registered Mine Manager. Peter continually upgraded his education by being involved in training with various companies. Peter was also part of the team that developed the National Coal Standard and a member of the Queensland Training Task Force that worked on the development of the Competency Unit Learning Packages (CULPs) for the black coal industry.
Cameron Sinn
After completing a Diesel Fitting apprenticeship through John Deere, Cameron joined a family history of miners. Cameron has gained qualifications in various fields as a miner and is now looking at expanding his knowledge into the training industry.
Steve Kelly
Holding a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, Stephen was employed for several years as a Workplace Trainer with Sydney-based training companies. Since moving to Queensland six years ago, he has worked with Mackay based-training companies, training personnel within the mining industry at Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point Terminals and at 17 mines within the Bowen Basin. Stephen conducts training in Safe Work at Heights, Confined Space, Low Voltage Rescue, Trainer and Assessor (TAA), Site Safety and Health Representative, and First Aid / CPR, to mention just a few. Stephen has maintained a current First Aid Certificate for over forty years and instigated and developed a first aid course in accordance with WorkCover NSW guidelines.
Scott MacDougall
Scott has been working in the coal industry with experience in various roles including operating underground machinery - continuous miner, longwall relocations, strata control, secondary support and more. Scott later became involved with the Underground Mines Rescue & Training. Scott is now looking at expanding his knowledge in the training industry.
Glenn Coppo
Coppo's Training Inspection Services has a learning agreement with Sharp Training that focuses on Glenn’s experience and qualifications. Since starting in the coal mining industry, Glenn has advanced his knowledge from a miner through to Deputy, Safety Advisor to Training Manager. During this time Glenn was involved with Mines Rescue for 11 years.
Geoff Fitzsimmons
After completing his apprenticeship in John Darling Colliery, N.S.W. Geoff moved onto Leichhardt Colliery, Blackwater to work as a fitter. While there he gained his Deputy qualification. Geoff was a member of mines rescue during this time. Geoff then worked at various mine sites as a Deputy. Since taking up training Geoff has been delivering training for Sharp Training and he also works part time in the marine industry and is a Volunteer Marine Rescue QLD skipper, and training officer for VMR Whitsunday
